Chapter 3
Battle of Will
This process of being thrown and getting back on continued into the night and next morning until both Vesric and the animal before him were riddled with exhaustion, mentally and physically. He was starting to consider just going everywhere on foot. Did he really need the horse? Did he hate himself this much? However right as he himself felt ready to just untie this horse and walk away, it laid down. It too, was exhausted. He walked over to the animal and laid a hand on its side. It was breathing heavy. He raised its head and pulled one of his water skins out and began to feed it into the horse’s mouth which it took greedily. He pulled grass and began to feed it. Again, the horse took it readily. They both rested a while. Ate, drank… and finally the horse moved back to its feet. Vesric gathered all his remaining strength to mount the beast one more time, but this time, it didn’t fight him. It let him stay atop and ride. He had finally won the battle of wills with the beast.
